Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM)
Program Aims (PAs)
The BSTM program aims to:
- Provide students with a comprehensive body of knowledge and critical awareness of the main ideas, concepts and principles of tourism management, including the management of allied services such as hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, amusement parks, and destination marketing organizations, convention centers and country clubs.
- Develop the students’ critical thinking abilities in planning, developing and sustaining tourism products and services, as well as evaluate tourism management processes and programs to meet desired needs and requirements under various constraints;
- Equip students with skills in planning, packaging and pricing domestic or international tourism products based on market requirements and number of participants in a particular tour program;
- Prepare the students for lifelong-learning by stimulating their interests, upgrading their skills and encouraging autonomous learning; and
- Produce Tourism Management professionals who are ever mindful of the Josephian values of faith, communion and service.

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:
A1.Contextualize tourism within broader cultural, environmental, political and economic dimensions of society, as well as critique tourism practices for their implications locally and globally
A2.Interpret and evaluate tourism as phenomenon and as business system, and explain the diverse nature of tourism, including culture and place, global/local perspectives, and experience design and provision
A3.Plan and evaluate tourism sites and attractions
- Application
Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:
B1. Organize and control resources for effective and efficient tourism operation.
B2.Create, apply and evaluate marketing strategies for tourism destinations and organizations; develop and evaluate tourism policy and planning initiatives.
B3.Evaluate and apply various research methods commonly used in the context of tourism and conduct a research project to inform tourism practice.
- Degree of Independence
Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:
C1.Research and conduct various tour guiding activities
C2.Work effectively in groups, both as leader and a team member, in developing marketing programs and arrange travel services.
C3.Demonstrate commitment to ethical practices of tourism and apply principles of sustainability to the practice of tourism in the local and global context.
