Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED)

Program Aims (PAs)

The BEED program aims to:

 

  1. Provide students with a coherent body of knowledge on the teaching profession, social dimensions of education, principles of teaching, educational technology, curriculum development, facilitating learning, child and adolescent development, assessment of student learning, and developmental reading

 

  1. Develop the students’ critical thinking abilities essential in decision making and solving problems which may be encountered in the teaching and learning environment, particularly in elementary school

 

  1. Equip the students with skills to deeply understand human growth and development, evaluate principles and strategies of teaching, identify appropriate measurements and evaluation tools and techniques, as well as critically evaluate social philosophies

 

  1. Prepare the students for lifelong learning by stimulating their interests, upgrading their skills and encouraging autonomous learning; and,

 

  1. Produce elementary school licensed professional teachers who are ever mindful of the Josephian values of faith, community and service.

Program Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

  1. Knowledge, Skills & Values

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:

A1.  Create learning experiences that develop the learners’ higher order thinking skills

A2. Manifest meaningful and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of the different subject areas.

A3. Utilize appropriate assessment and evaluate to measure learning outcomes.

 

  1. Application

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:

B1. Use principles of teaching and learning associated with instructional operations and curricular management

B2. Apply principles of evaluation and research in classroom testing and measurements, as well as principles, methods and techniques and guidance and counseling in classroom situations.

B3. Manifest skills in communication higher order thinking and use of tools and technology to accelerate learning and teaching.

 

  1. Degree of Independence

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:    

C1. Work effectively and collaboratively with a substantial degree of independence in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.

C2. Act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility, and preserve and promote Filipino historical and cultural heritage (based on RA 7722).

C3. Demonstrate positive attributes of a model teacher, both as an individual and as a professional.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

After successful completion of all academic requirements of the degree/program, the graduates of BEED should be able to practice the teaching profession in the elementary level.   They could apply as:
  • a pre-school teacher
  • teaching assistant
  • private tutor
  • subject teacher.
