Program Aims (PAs)

The ABEC program aims to:
 

  1. Provide students with a comprehensive body of knowledge and critical awareness of the main ideas, concepts and principles of economics, and its applications and with essential skills for undertaking economic analysis;

 

  1. Prepare students for jobs that require research and analytical skills in the public or corporate sector;

 

  1. Provide an adequate and reliable intellectual platforms for those who would like to pursue advanced graduate degrees in economics as well as further studies in law, management, finance, international relations, and other related fields;

 

  1. Prepare the students for lifelong-learning by stimulating their interests, upgrading their skills and encouraging autonomous learning; and

 

  1. Produce Economics professionals who are ever mindful of the Josephian values of faith, communion and service.

Program Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

  1. Knowledge, Skills & Values

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:

A1. Demonstrate knowledge of economic theory and the standard methods used in economic research;

A2. Understand the functions of financial markets and the role of financial institutions within the economic system; and

A3. Evaluate theory and critique research within the discipline.

 

  1. Application

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:

B1. Demonstrate the ability to diagnose economic problems using appropriate theories and methodologies;

B2. Effectively communicate economic arguments and research results; and

B3. Interpret and assess the role of financial institutions and their behaviour within the economic system.

 

  1. Degree of Independence

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:    

C1. Appreciate and practice good citizenship;

C2. Demonstrate a deep commitment to maintaining high ethical standards especially in constituting, analyzing, and interpreting economic data and result; and

 C3. Be responsible for one’s actions and work independently or work with a team for the benefits of the community as a whole.
