Program Aims (PAs)

The BSED-MATHEMATICS program aims to:  
  1. Possess broad knowledge about Mathematics to recognize that mathematics permeates the world around us.
 
  1. Use and develop mathematical curiosity and use inductive and deductive reasoning when solving problems.
 
  1. Acquire extensive knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to pursue further studies in mathematics.
 
  1. Demonstrate proficiency in using mathematics to analyse and solve problems both in school and in real-life situations.
 
  1. Shows competence in employing abstract, logical and critical thinking and the ability to reflect critically upon their work and the work of others.
 
  1. Use technology in facilitating Mathematics and be able to use the language, symbols and notation of mathematics in learning and teaching process.
 
  1. Inspire students and colleagues to lead relevant and transformative changes to improve learning and teaching.
 
  1. Use appropriate mathematical concepts and skills to solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations including those in real-life contexts.

Program Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:

A1. Acquire proficiency in problem-solving by solving and creating routine and non-routine problems with different levels of complexity;

A2. Explain and illustrate clearly, accurately, and comprehensively the mathematical concepts, using relevant examples as needed; and

A3. Analyze assessment results and use these as to improve learning.

  1. Application

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:

B1. Appreciate mathematics as an opportunity for creative work, moments of discovery, and gaining insights of the world;

B2.Use effectively appropriate approaches, methods, and techniques in teaching mathematics; and

B3.Demonstrate competence in designing, constructing and utilizing different forms of assessment in mathematics.

 

  1. Degree of Independence

Upon completion of the program, the graduates should be able to:    

C1. Exhibit competence in mathematical concepts and procedures;

C2.Execute proficiency in relating mathematics to other curricular areas; and

C3. Manifest meaningful and comprehensive pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of mathematics.
